India's first ever female superstar, Sri Devi, has passed away in Dubai on Sunday, reports ANI. The actress was 55.
According to a report by Filmfare, Sri Devi was attending a family wedding in Dubai, accompanied by her younger daughter Khushi and husband, film producer Boney Kapoor. This is where she suffered a massive cardiac arrest.
Her elder daughter, Jhanvi couldn't attend the wedding because of her shooting schedule.
Well-wishers of the family are rushing to Sri Devi's house in Mumbai to be with her daughter.
Sri Devi was known for her iconic roles in Hindi movies like Mr India, Chaalbaaz, Nagina, Sadma, and many more. She had over 275 acting credits to her name including those in regional languages like Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.
She started her child artist in Tamil movie industry. Built her career over the years and in 2013 was awarded Padmashri for her contribution to Indian cinema.
When she became a mother for the first time with daughter Jhanvi Kapoor, she went away from the movie business. After 15 years of hiatus, she made a stellar comeback in Gauri Shinde's movie English Vinglish.
Her last Hindi movie was revenge thriller titled Mom.

Sanjay Kapoor confirmed the news to a leading daily saying, “Yes, it is true that Sri Devi passed away. I just landed here, I was in Dubai and now I am flying back to Dubai. It happened roughly around 11.00-11.30. I don’t know more details yet.''

The actor not only won hearts of millions with her films like Chandni, Lamhe,
Mr India, Nagina and more in the 1990’s, but she also continued winning accolades in her second innings with films like English Vinglish. Sri Devi was last seen in the movie MOM produced by hubby Boney Kapoor. The movie, which also featured Nawazuddin Siddiqui, fared decently at the box office.
